RED DISTRIBUTION FINISHES 2010 ON HIGH NOTE
In a music industry that has been dealing with declining sales and negative press, there are many success stories coming out of the independent sector, specifically from RED Distribution, the independent division of Sony Music Entertainment. In 2010, RED was consistently represented on industry charts, and rounded out the year with 28 Grammy nominations, the most ever received by RED-distributed releases.
The Grammy nominations include Mumford & Sons (Best New Artist; Best Rock Song “Little Lion Man”), Ray LaMontagne (Song of the Year “Beg Steal or Borrow”; Best Contemporary Folk Album; Best Engineered Album Non-Classical God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise) Herbie Hancock (Best Pop Collaboration w/Vocals “Imagine” feat. Pink/India Arie/Seal/Konono No 1/Jeff Beck & Oumou Sangare; Best Improvised Jazz Solo “A Change is Gonna Come”; Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists “Imagine”), and Gretchen Wilson (Best Female Country Vocal Performance; Best Country Song “I’d Love To Be Your Last”).
In 2010, the Billboard Top 20 was primarily dominated by major label pop stars such as Train, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Susan Boyle, B.O.B., Trey Songz and Usher. Among these superstars, RED had nine independent artists that made their way into the Top 20. Furthermore, the new releases from Jason Aldean, Ray LaMontagne, Bullet for My Valentine, As I Lay Dying and Buckcherry were all Top 10 debuts.

2010 also ushered in RIAA certifications for Jason Aldean Wide Open (Platinum), Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (Gold), Mumford & Sons Sigh No More (Gold) and Jason Aldean’s November release, My Kinda Party, is nearly Platinum.
In Billboard Magazine’s Best of 2010 issue, RED labels and artists were ranked #1 across all Independent categories: #1 Indie Imprint - Broken Bow; #1 Indie Album – Jason Aldean Wide Open; #1 Indie Artist – Jason Aldean; #1 Indie Label – Broken Bow (#2 Indie Label - Glassnote). RED finished 2010 with 5 of the 10 best-selling independent albums in the country.
